The Beltrami County Historical Society (BCHS) was founded in 1952 to preserve, promote, and interpret county history, and opened the Beltrami County History Center in the restored historic 1912 Great Northern Depot as a museum and research center in 2001. The mission of the Beltrami County Historical Society is to “provide connections to county history through public archives, collections, interpretive exhibits and programs that educate, invite dialogue and inspire self-reflection“.

BCHS seeks candidates for the position of Executive Director. The Executive Director is responsible for overall leadership, management, and administration of the History Center, including: working with the Board of Directors to develop and implement BCHS goals and objectives, training and supervising staff and volunteers, developing and implementing programs and exhibits, curating the collections, overseeing the budget, and advocating on behalf of the organization. Applicants should possess strong leadership, communication, and networking abilities, and enthusiasm for the mission of BCHS.

Position requires evening and weekend work, including regional travel for meetings.

Minimum: High School Diploma and five years of experience in a visitor serving or customer service oriented business, fundraising organization, or non-profit organization.
Bachelor’s Degree in Museum Studies, History, Business, (non-profit) Management, or closely related field and two years of management experience in a visitor serving or customer service oriented business, fundraising organization or non-profit organization.

Preferred: Master’s degree in Museum Studies, History, or closely related field and at least three years experience in a history museum or similar non-profit organization that included exhibitions, collections management, staff and volunteer management, and board of directors; Experience with grant writing and donor development; Experience with public fundraising and friend-raising events; Familiarity managing the operations of a complex facility and organization; Motivated self-starter and problem solver with the ability to work independently and as part of a team; Experience with PastPerfect, Microsoft Office, and other computer software; Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed.

Salary Range: $20,000 to $24,000

The candidate selected for employment must possess a valid driver’s license and will be required to successfully pass a criminal background investigation prior to beginning employment.
