AirCorps Aviation and Aircraft Preservation

Erik Hokuf shares his expertise about AirCorps Aviation and how its different divisions tie into one another.  His presentation will focus on preserving history, honoring veterans and serving the community.  AirCorps Aviation produces award-winning aircraft restorations, digitizes and preserves rare technical drawings, manuals and photos, and shares stories of the sometimes forgotten past. He will present a detailed breakdown on the restoration of the Sierra Sue II, a P51D Mustang, restored in 2014. In partnership with the Bemidji Public Library.  Made possible by a Legacy Arts and Cultural Heritage Grant.

William Blackwell, Executive Director of the American Indian Resource Center at Bemidji State University, draws upon his expertise to showcase trends and strategies in closing the achieving gap in school performance amongst Native American students. Noted speaker, storyteller, and photographer Doug Ohman makes history come alive with humor and insight.  He will explore the back roads and small towns of Minnesota through the historic buildings that are quickly disappearing.  Join us as Doug shares his own experiences visiting many of these sites, from Minnesota’s oldest Courthouse to the last Civil War recruiting station.  Made possible through a generous Legacy Arts and Cultural Heritage Grant.

TRAINS AT THE DEPOT

The Northern Iron Horse Railroad Society is teaming up with the Beltrami County Historical Society to bring back the popular TRAINS AT THE DEPOT event. There will be several operating model railroad layouts on display in several different scales, including the most popular scales of HO, N, O and Lego.  Photography and video displays will also be presented.  A very fun event for the entire family from your little train enthusiasts from age 2 and 99. Standard History Center admission applies (free for Beltrami County Historical Society members).
